With only 18 days left until the start of our expedition, all of our logistical arrangements have finally been confirmed! Our flights and accommodation are now booked, we will be flying from Oslo to Longyearbyen on the 11th July and returning on the 17th August. Luckily we will be staying in student accommodation provided by the University centre in Svalbard, so there will be no need to camp in near freezing conditions with a nightly polar bear watch! We are also now booked onto a field safety course on the 12th July which will include our rifle training.
We are now all refining our research projects and acquiring the items of equipment we will need in Svalbard. One new purchase for the team is a UAV drone, which will be used to acquire high resolution aerial imagery of the study glaciers for all our projects. Hopefully we will be able to take some good videos too which we can post on here!
