Arctic Circle Touchdown

An exciting 22 hour stopover in Oslo ended with us getting a bit wet when we got caught in a Norwegian storm. We safely reached the Arctic Circle yesterday evening, seeing great views of Norway on the journey. The flight took us along the coast of Svalbard, and onto a very short runway which is surrounded by ocean water... A bit of a bumpy landing, but luckily we didn't end up going for a swim!

As we are Guest Bachelors with the University Centre in Svalbard (UNIS), we are staying in their accommodation in Nybyen, which is conveniently close to three of the glaciers we plan to research. Today we have explored the town of Longyearbyen, registered at the university and bought our first food shop. We're now stocked up with tins and frozen everything, and we are excited for our safety training course tomorrow!
